New Dental Product: CS 9600 Cone Beam Computed Tomography System from Carestream Dental

Designed to make capturing highly diagnostic 3D images easier, the CS 9600 cone beam computed tomography system from Carestream Dental features smart automation, simplified workflows, and "first-time-right" imaging technology.

Designed to grow with a practice and be used for any clinical situation or specialty, the CS 9600 can accommodate upgrades to add new fields of view, along with a range of customizable options and easy-to-use software, according to a press release. The system is capable of capturing 2D digital panoramic images, 3D CBCT scanning, 3D model and impression scanning, and 3D facial scanning. An upgrade to add cephalometric imaging is available, and the system offers three editions for a choice of 10, 12, or 14 fields of view.

A SmartPad touchscreen control interface guides clinicians through imaging workflows, and a live positioning assistant uses cameras to ensure proper patient positioning. The system is designed with a retractable seat allowing it to benefit from the stability of a seated patient while also accommodating patients in wheelchairs when the seat is rotated out of the way. Scout scans and face-to-face positioning also help ensure the capture of the correct image, and image quality can be immediately verified on the high-resolution touchscreen. SmartAuto technology helps the system set up both 2D and 3D images so they are precisely positioned to capture the proper anatomy. Images are then enhanced via the patented CS MAR technology which used an algorithm to reduce metal artifacts in the 3D images.

With low dose imaging capabilities, the CS 9600 adheres to the ALARA principle, allowing the system to capture 3D images at lower doses than some 2D panoramic imaging systems. It works with CS Imaging version 8, and an updated software platform designed to provide a single place to work with all 2D and 3D images as well as CAD/CAM data. Additional software modules such as CS Airway, CS Model, and CS Model+ can be integrated to expand the applications of the imaging system.
