The Dentalcompare Blog is the place where our authors can post short thoughts on news of interest, quick clinical tips and other small bites of information.

The Blog is home to personal stories, technical info, news, updates and lots more. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that the 12 most read Blog posts this year touch and huge range of topics.

Our Top 12 Articles leaned toward technology and case studies, but there’s more variety to be found among the Top 12 Dentalcompare Blog Posts of 2012:

Vicodin

12. Vicodin Formulation Getting Updated

Here Clinical Director Dr. Jeff Rohde provides a quick overview of new FDA regulations and thus formulation changes for the painkiller Vicodin. It’s to the point and filled with useful info, so no wonder it was popular.

Shoes with teeth

11. How Do You Properly Articulate Shoes With Teeth?

Sometimes dental-related content goes viral, or in this case it was a fashion design project with plenty of bite that caught the attention of the Internet. Many people thought these shoes were odd, I wondered if the designers thought about how they might function.

To etch or not

10. To Etch Or Not To Etch: Answering With Self Etching Adhesive

This quick hitting clinical post from Dr. Rohde proved popular. This is probably because he highlighted a recent study that showed etching unprepared enamel increased bond strengths.

Lava Plus Zirconia

9. Lava Plus - Translucent Zirconia for Full Contour Crowns

The first of a pair of Blog posts about new 3M ESPE materials to make this list, here Dr. Rohde took a few moments to highlight the properties of a new material he found interesting. The pictures in this post say as much as Dr. Rohde’s text.

Lava Ultimate

8. 3M Lava Ultimate Reclassified As Ceramic According to the ADA

The second 3M ESPE material post to make this list. Here Dr. Rohde highlights the importance of the reclassification of this novel resin, nano-ceramic material for insurance purposes, as well as what it means for new materials to be given such attention by the ADA.

Oral bacteria link

7. Link Between Oral Bacteria and Cardiovascular Inflammation

Finding this post among the most popular makes a lot of sense, as it’s a follow up note related to Dr. Rohde’s interview with Dr. Donald Clem, which turned out to be the most popular article of 2012.

CEREC expectations

6. Using CEREC To Surpass Expectations For A Patient

CAD/CAM case studies were popular articles in 2012, and here Dr. Rohde wrote a piece less about the technical aspects of using the technology and more about the impact same-day dentistry can have on a patient.

Dentalcompare newsletters

5. Dentalcompare Has Re-launched Newsletters!

One nice thing about publishing online is the pace at which we can make changes. The fact that this Blog Post was among the most popular this year shows that you really do pay attention when we change things around here. In 2013 stay tuned for more changes as we continue to update Dentalcompare with the goal of providing you with the best information and the easiest to use website in dentistry.

Carbon fiber posts

4. Study Pits Carbon Fiber Posts Against Zirconia

This post would seem to be rather dry, and Dr. Rohde even noted in it that Materials was not his favorite course in dental school. However, the study he highlighted in the post provided solid science to help guide materials decisions in clinical situations, and that’s probably why it was among the most popular this year.

CEREC Omnicam

3. Omnicam Continues to Re-Define the Future Dental Office

Sirona’s CEREC 27.5 event was notable for many reasons, but the biggest was definitely the introduction of the new Omnicam. Dr. Rohde wrote this blog post after trying the new digital impression camera at the show. His video showing how quickly and easily it captures a 3D scan in full color is likely a big reason this post was so popular.

Plasma brush

2. Plasma Makes Its Dental Debut

New technologies are always exciting, so when Dr. Rohde shared the news of a study at the University of Missouri employing a non-thermal argon plasma brush to increase bond strengths, people paid attention. There might not be a commercially available dental plasma brush just yet, but when there is, I’m guessing it will make a similar end of year list.

New sleep apnea device

1. New Sleep Apnea Device Promises To Make You Less Like Darth Vader

Maybe it was the mention of Darth Vader in the headline, or maybe it was that this blog post generated a debate in the comments section, but whatever the reason, Dr. Rohde’s write up of a sleep apnea device definitely caught people’s attention this year.
