Enhanced Dental Product: Planmeca Romexis Imaging Software

Planmeca Romexis imaging software now features new AI-based tools. The updates were unveiled at the International Dental Show in Cologne.

The flexible software platform supports 2D and 3D imaging, CAD/CAM, and provides an all-in-one solution for specialties and clinics of all sizes, according to a press release. The upgrades help optimize daily tasks and make working with images and treatment planning easier and faster.

For the 3D imaging module, the company introduced Romexis Smart, an AI-based feature that allows the automatic segmentation and recognition of anatomies such as teeth, nerves, jaws, airways and sinuses. This enables easier and faster use of the software and optimal visualization of the case for patient education. With the help of artificial intelligence, CBCT images and intraoral scans are also automatically mapped. With automatic tooth number recognition, a CBCT volume can be easily navigated by clicking on the tooth number in the tooth chart. The software centers all views on the tooth of interest.

The recently released Planmeca Romexis CAD/CAM module now has a Planmeca Romexis Ortho Simulator feature. Intraoral scans can be used to quickly simulate the true potential of a patient’s smile. The AI-based algorithm creates simulation proposals for orthodontic cases and makes it easy to discuss treatment possibilities and showcase the potential of clear aligner treatments. The proposals also can be adjusted manually with fast and intuitive simulation tools.

The Planmeca Romexis CMF Surgery module for craniomaxillofacial surgery planning has new features as well as improvements to existing functionalities. The segmentation procedures have been improved and can be fully automated with the new Romexis Smart tools. Landmarks now can be detected automatically, saving time. It’s also possible to simulate the changes in the soft tissues that patients can expect following surgery.

Planmeca is also collaborating with Pearl to make its Second Opinion service available within the Romexis platform. Users will quickly receive AI evaluations of intraoral x-ray images directly in Romexis for further examination and treatment planning. In addition to saving clinicians time, the analysis feature helps patients visualize caries, calculus and other findings, improving patient education. The service also numbers the teeth and performs periodontic measurements automatically.

The service supports both bitewing and periapical images, with support for panoramic images coming soon.
