Align Technology Announces Research Award Program

Align Technology recently announced its 2021 Research Award Program.

The program supports clinical and scientific dental research at universities around the world, awarding $300,000 to initiatives that advance patient care in orthodontics and dentistry, according to a press release.

Since starting the program in 2010, Align has funded about $2 million in awards. The research has provided insights into intraoral scanning and patient experience, quality of life changes, and the biochemical markers of bone metabolism during early orthodontic tooth movement with clear aligners.

Four one-year awards of up to $25,000 each are available for dental research at universities in Canada, Mexico, Central and South America; in Europe, the Middle East and Africa; and in Asia-Pacific countries.

Full and part time faculty members who are involved in dental or scientific research at universities where Invisalign treatment or the iTero scanner is available are eligible to apply. All applications are reviewed by an independent academic committee that forwards recommendations to Align Technology for final selection.

Research proposals and completed applications must be received by 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on March 5. Winners will be notified by June 7.
