Sonendo’s GentleWave Shown to Produce Virtually No Aerosols

Sonendo recently announced that its GentleWave System is shown to produce virtually no aerosols, which could reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19 to both dental professionals and patients during root canal treatment.

Some endodontic instruments create visible sprays that can contain particle droplets of water, saliva, blood, microorganisms and other debris. Because it is a closed-loop system, the GentleWave System releases virtually no aerosolized material into the air during normal use, according to a press release. The procedure is performed with a single-use, sterilized instrument, which eliminates the risk of cross-contamination.

The procedure is generally performed in one visit, which also limits exposure. Procedure instruments come pre-sterilized and are single use.

The system uses broad-spectrum sound waves, advanced fluid dynamics and accelerated chemistry to clean and disinfect the root canal system.
