Philips and Toothpic Collaborate to Create Teledentistry Platform

Philips and Toothpic recently launched a teledentistry platform that offers dental professionals a tool to build direct patient engagement, acquisition and retention while improving office efficiency, in-chair time and remote care.

The multi-service platform complements Philips Sonicare’s existing teledentistry solutions service for patients powered by Toothpic, according to a press release. It allows dental professionals to engage with patients virtually to provide continuity of service with hygiene checks as well as assessing other common oral health issues such as gum diseases, cavities and inflammation.

Each participating practice receives a unique QR code to invite patients to connect securely via the app. Patients can flag concerns within the platform. They’re guided through a six-part photo-capturing process to ensure optimal placement and consistent capture of the same angle, offering a series of images of the same anatomy over time. This high-resolution imaging process is unique to the platform and allows for optimized patient assessments. Patients will be alerted if a photo taken appears blurry so the dentist receives the clearest image possible.

The teledentistry platform enables dentists to create a unique link for every patient’s case. Dental professionals also can write an assessment that can be uploaded directly into their software, helping to integrate the tool into existing practice management software processes. The report creation feature produces templates for fast, comprehensive assessments and treatment options.

The platform is both HIPAA compliant and an ISO 9001 certified product.
