Dentsply Sirona recently introduced CEREC Primemill, a grinding and milling machine that uses high-speed double-spindle strategies to produce precise margins and smooth surfaces.
The chairside mill works with a variety of materials and features a 7-inch touch interface, an integrated camera for scanning blocks with compatible data matrix code and a radio frequency identification (RFID) scanner for reading tool information, according to a press release.
The new user-friendly design offers smooth operation and a faster workflow. The large touch interface guides users through all workflow processes, with each step displayed in order. It also shows where tools are used for the selected material and machining option. The tools are color coded based on the material to be processed and also come with a small RFID tag that can be read by an integrated scanner. The machine informs the user about the tool’s status and if or when it should be replaced with a new one.
Material blocks that have a compatible data matrix code can be scanned with the integrated camera, recording type, size, color and zirconia enlargement factor. The mill also features an LED light strip that indicates its status. The moving blue progress bar changes to green when the manufacturing process is complete. The interface also guides users through routine maintenance procedures.
The mill’s new tools and improved technology makes it possible to mill restorations faster, especially restorations made of zirconia. Using the mill’s Super Fast mode, zirconia crowns can be milled in about five minutes. Very fine tools (0.5 mm) in the Extra Fine milling mode allow users to achieve a high level of detail for occlusal fissures as well as interdental areas on bridges.
