After securing approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Zephyr Sleep Technologies will soon begin selling its MATRx plus multi-functional sleep diagnostic system in the United States.
The system is designed to allow patients to identify obstructive sleep apnea and then be fit for an oral sleep appliance while at home, according to a press release. The MATRx plus can perform a standard home sleep test, as well as an oral appliance trial. The tablet-based system includes instructional videos to guide patients through the self-administered assessment. With cloud-connectivity, the sleep study results are synced with the prescribing dentist's office as well as Zephyr's servers to allow instant collaboration. Proprietary algorithms, along with AI and machine learning are used to evaluate the data captured during the tests.
After determining if a patient suffers from obstructive sleep apnea, the system is then able to inform clinicians on whether or not an oral appliance will work for the patient, and if an appliance will work, what therapeutic treatment position will be most effective.
The MATRx plus system will debut at the upcoming Dentsply Sirona World event, where Dentsply Sirona plans to unveil a new 3D solution for obstructive sleep apnea.
