New Dental Product: Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum Connected from Philips Sonicare

Philips Sonicare recently introduced the Sonicare FlexCare Platinum Connected power toothbrush.

The toothbrush features Smart Sensor technology, which tracks brushing in real time and enables patients to see a clear picture of their brushing habits, according to a press release. The technology, which is built into the toothbrush’s handle, syncs via Bluetooth with the free Philips Sonicare app, making it possible to create a personalized 3D Mouth Map. This map helps patients identify trouble spots.

Patients receive feedback designed to help them reach more surfaces every time they brush and to improve their brushing technique. The toothbrush monitors areas of the mouth without using a camera, so users have the freedom to move while brushing. Once they’re done, the ‘Touch Up’ feature prompts patients to go back to any areas they missed.

“This brush allows patients to see and monitor everything inside their mouth,” Philips Sonicare Marketing Manager Amanda Fernandez said. “It’s like having your own dental professional coaching and guiding you at home.”

Location sensors in the power toothbrush tell users where they’re not brushing enough, while scrubbing sensors let patients know when to reduce scrubbing. Pressure sensors tell patients when they’re using too much pressure, and the SmartTimer ensures patients brush for two minutes. The BrushPacer alerts patients when it’s time to move on to another segment of the mouth.

Through the ‘Focus Area’ feature, patients can set daily goals and track their progress. Patients who choose to share their progress report with their dentist will receive personalized advice through the app, helping to improve compliance.

“The information in the app will really help people improve their oral health,” Fernandez said.

Just like the Philips Sonicare, the Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum Connected features three brushing modes at three levels of intensity, including a targeted three-minute DeepClean mode. The handle works with the AdaptiveClean Brush Head. To ensure patients get optimal results from their brush head, the app includes a smart brush head performance monitor to track and provide feedback to let patients know when to change the brush head.
