National Association of Dental Laboratories Warns Dentists, Patients About Impact of Declining Number of Dental Labs

With the rapid decline in the number of U.S. dental labs reducing the options for dentists, the National Association of Dental Laboratories (NADL) is working to educate clinicians and the public about the importance of quality standards in dental labs.

According to NADL research, the number of U.S. dental labs will decrease by 39 percent from 2006-2017, and this means dentists will have less choice in where to send cases. The NADL also feels this is an important time for dentists to make sure the labs they work with meet industry quality standards, according to a press release.

With a goal of educating dental professionals and their patients about this issue, the NADL has launched the “What’s in Your Mouth?” campaign. In a recent press release the NADL offered 5 ways for dentists to identify a lab providing quality restorations. These include learning if the lab operates in a state that mandates dental lab standards; looking to work with a lab with a Certified Dental Technician on staff; working with a Certified Dental Lab or a DAMAS-accredited lab; staying up to date on legislative issues involving dental restorations; and if you are working with a CDT or a CDL, informing your patients about the quality of the lab you partner with.
