Hu-Friedy Apprentice Program Trains New Generation of Dental Instrument Makers

A new two-year apprentice program at Hu-Friedy is training the next generation of dental instrument makers.

The program is providing select company employees with the education they need to master the skills and knowledge base to continue the company’s success in instrument manufacturing, according to a press release. The pilot program with four apprentices started this summer with training provided by Hu-Friedy’s current group of expert instrument makers who have decades of experience at hand crafting instruments.

The goal of the program is to train the apprentices to understand the entire instrument manufacturing process where a piece of steel is formed into a balanced, durable, precision instrument. The apprentices will receive their full pay and benefits while studying and training for the two years of the program which includes 20 areas of expertise including metal composition, heat-treating and computer laser skills.
