Research Shows The Canary System Detects Interproximal Caries

Research presented at the recent American Association of Dental Research meeting supports Quantum Dental Technologies’ claims that its The Canary System can identify the presence of interproximal caries.

The company’s caries detection system uses PTR-LUM energy conversion technology to examine the crystalline structure of teeth, and it can detect carious lesions, even interproximally, earlier than they can be seen on an x-ray or by visual inspection using the ICDAS II ranking system, according to a press release.  The study found The Canary System provides a sensitivity of 0.7 while x-rays were 0.2 and the ICDAS II ranking system was 0.4.
