NOMAD Handheld X-ray System Now Approved for Unrestricted Use in Virginia

Beginning in 2014, dental professionals in Virginia will be permitted to use Aribex NOMAD handheld x-ray systems without wearing a personal dosimeter.

The move by Virginia will make it the 35th state to drop its personal dosimeter requirement and permit full use of the handheld x-ray system, according to a press release. There are currently more than 13,000 NOMAD units in use, and the move by Virginia follows 8 years of monitoring practitioners to ensure the product is safe for clinicians.

While the dosimeter requirements might have slowed adoption of a technology such as NOMAD, the data from those and other studies confirms that the NOMAD system does not produce dangerous radiation exposure for clinicians. Aribex expect other states to follow Virginia’s move in the near future and drop dosimeter requirements.
