The American Dental Association Issues Statement on Dental Infection Control

Following the confirmation of an incidence of patient to patient transmission of hepatitis C in a dental setting, the American Dental Association (ADA) issued a statement to assure the public of the high standards for infection control in most dental practices.

The ADA statement mentioned that the incident in Oklahoma was not the norm for the dental industry, and most practices strictly adhere to the infection control standards developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), according to a press release.

These guidelines include proper cleaning and sterilization of all surfaces and instruments used in the dental practice, as well as the use of masks and gloves by all clinicians while working with patients.
