3M ESPE and BIOMET 3i Collaborate on Digital Workflow for Dental Implants

Clinicians using the 3M True Definition Scanner from 3M ESPE and the BellaTek Encode Impression System from BIOMET 3i can now restore an implant with a custom abutment and crown from just one digital impression.

In this all-digital implant workflow the clinician uses the 3M intraoral scanner to capture a digital impression of the specialized BellaTek Encode Healing Abutment that features embedded codes on the occlusal surface which allow the dental laboratory to design and fabricate a correctly oriented custom abutment. The digital workflow is designed to increase productivity, reduce appointment times and increase patient satisfaction, according to press releases from both 3M ESPE and BIOMET 3i.

Because the digital impression captures a scan of the healing abutment, this digital workflow eliminates the need for an impression coping, which means the healing abutment does not need to be removed to facilitate the fabrication of a custom abutment and crown. The new workflow for the 3M True Definition Scanner currently only works with the BellaTek Encode Impression System and is available to practices subscribed to the Advanced Data Plan.
