Professor of restorative dentistry at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry Dr. Kent Knoernschild was recently elected to serve as the Chair of the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). He is the first prosthodontist to hold the position, according to a press release.
Dr. Knoernschild will serve a one year term as Chair following his selection by the CODA commissioners and approval by the American Dental Association House of Delegates. In this position he will preside over the CODA board meetings to review accreditation recommendations and set CODA policy.

Dr. Kent Knoernschild Elected Chair of Commission on Dental Accreditation
Dr. Kent Knoernschild, Professor, Restorative Dentistry, University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry, recently was elected Chair of the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
The Chair represents the commission as to the dental healthcare community and the public at large, as well as to the American Dental Association (ADA). The Chair also presides at all meetings of the Board of Commissioners, which reviews accreditation recommendations, makes accreditation decisions, and sets policy for the commission.
"The commission has broad representation from all areas of dentistry — general dentistry, advanced specialty education, dental allied, and dental laboratory groups," said Dr. Knoernschild. "I’ve gained valuable perspective from collaboration with the commissioners over the last three years, and I’m honored to have been elected by them to serve."
The Chair is elected by all commissioners of CODA. The results of the election are forwarded to the ADA House of Delegates, which reviews the nomination and provides final approval.
Dr. Knoernschild's term will last for one year, starting at the ADA Annual Meeting in October. He is the first prosthodontist ever elected Chair of CODA.
