CAD/CAM Blocks

The real force behind the advancement of digital dentistry is the revolution in material choices for both chairside and lab-produced restorations. CAD/CAM blocks or discs are used in conjunction with a dental mill to produce final or temporary restorations or a range of parts used in these restorations. Computer designed and milled prosthetics provide highly accurate fits, quality esthetics and durability, while also providing the advantages of shortened production times and lower costs when compared with traditional metal-based restorations. There are a variety of materials available for CAD/CAM systems including zirconias, lithium silicates, ceramics, resins, waxes and more. When selecting a block it is important to make sure it is suitable for the intended restorative indication. Some materials requires specialized firing protocols in a dental oven and other require specific polishing procedures, so it is critical to make sure you have the equipment and supplies necessary to use the material you choose.
