Dental provisional cements are designed to attach temporary restorations that are placed while a permanent crown, bridge or other restoration is being fabricated. Also referred to as temporary cements, these materials must provide the strength required to keep the temporary in place while also being simple to remove, and easy to clean-up. A number of different formulations are used for temporary cementation, and they can feature eugenol or be eugenol-free. When choosing a cement, it's important to make sure it can meet the requirements of the restoration being placed and hold for as long as the temporary will be needed by the patient.
