Space maintainers, also known as orthodontic bands, are used to provide the proper spacing between and around a patient's teeth during orthodontic treatment. These round bands are usually fabricated from stainless steel and are available in a range of sizes to easily fit over the teeth being treated. Orthodontic bands are often cemented into place and stay in the patient's mouth throughout the course of orthodontic treatment.
