Torquing orthodontic pliers are most often used to place torque into an archwire for single tooth movement. To achieve desired torque, torquing orthodontic pliers either feature a key used in conjunction with the pliers for torquing or a male and female torquing pliers set. The tips may feature tungsten carbide inserts for superior grip and longevity. The pliers should be able to apply necessary torque without nicking or fraying the wire. Be sure the pliers are constructed of a high-grade stainless steel for corrosion resistance, durability, and strength, and are fully autoclavable.
