AI-Powered Videa Caries Assist Receives FDA 510(k) Clearance

VideaHealth recently received FDA 510(k) clearance for its AI-powered Videa Caries Assist.

The dental caries detection algorithm from VideaHealth surpassed the FDA’s efficacy requirements, with the number of missed caries 43% lower for dentists using the solution, according to a press release. The dentists using Videa’s AI also experienced a 15% average reduction in erroneous detections of caries lesions.

Dentists in the trial, regardless of experience level, had caries detection capability improvements for more accurate diagnosis, improved patient care and cost savings for patients.

A joint study with VideaHealth partner Heartland Dental revealed similar impacts on diagnostic improvements and treatment planning.

The solution is built on the Videa Factory, which houses a diverse dataset with more than 100 million data points from dental service organizations (DSOs), insurance companies, clearinghouses and universities. This helps the VideaHealth algorithms remain impartial and more fully represent the diversity of the U.S. population.

The AI technology and workflow integration are designed to accelerate and improve decision-making across the dental chain, leading to economic and health value for providers, insurers and patients.
