Dentsply Sirona, FDI World Dental Federation and the cleft-focused organization Smile Train recently partnered to develop gold standard protocols to help advance the future of cleft care.
The partnerships are part of Dentsply Sirona’s sustainability strategy, “Beyond: Taking action for a brighter world,” according to a press release, and were developed to create best practice protocols for digital cleft treatment.
The goal is to increase access for the 1 in 700 babies born with cleft lip and/or palate around the world.
The three partners will work together on integrating digital office workflows and sustainable solutions into the protocols. They’ll also create and provide the required clinical education infrastructure to clinicians globally.
Dentsply Sirona also recently made a $5 million donation to Smile Train as part of a five-year commitment to help children around the world gain access to cleft treatment.
“Children with clefts are more susceptible to poor oral health, which can greatly impact their speech, ability to eat, and their overall well-being,” Smile Train President & Chief Executive Officer Susannah Schaefer said, according to the release. “We are delighted that our new partnership with Dentsply Sirona and FDI ensures that Smile Train centers around the world will have access to digital treatment protocols that integrate the latest, newest technologies to provide best-in-class digital oral health care.”
