Grin Receives 2021 AAO Ortho Innovator Award

Dr. Adam Schulhof of Grin recently received the 2021 AAO Ortho Innovator Award.

Grin’s technology allows orthodontists to remotely monitor orthodontic patients' progress between in-person visits, according to a press release. Grin Remote Monitoring & Consultation are made possible by the Grin App and the Grin Scope, a patent-pending, FDA-listed medical device. The scope is an intraoral adapter that retracts the cheeks so clinicians can see a complete view into a patient's mouth remotely. The scope works in concert with the Grin App to create high-quality, self-scanned patient videos.

The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) Committee on Technology began the Ortho Innovator program three years ago to support innovation among orthodontists and partners in the industry. The committee reviewed 40 entries for this year’s award.

To be eligible, businesses must offer new products or services for orthodontic treatment or orthodontic practice management. Each business is evaluated by its uniqueness, originality, functionality or feasibility, and value for the orthodontic practice.

"My original goal was always to create a company that addresses convenience and remote monitoring needs successfully while keeping patient health a top priority,” Dr. Schulhof said, according to the release. “I also wanted to convey a strong message to consumers about the importance of utilizing an orthodontist for orthodontic treatment. With the Grin Remote Monitoring Platform, orthodontists can see into a patient's mouth as much as they could during an in-person appointment.”

Braces On Demand was this year’s first runner up and uLab Systems was the second runner up. Finalists include Dentagrafix, Halcomb LLC - Simple Tooth Uprighting Device, InBrace and Orvance.
