New Dental Product: Zipbond Universal Adhesive from SDI

SDI recently introduced Zipbond Universal Adhesive.

The fluoride-releasing material is compatible with self-etch, selective-etch and total-etch techniques, according to the company website. The adhesive’s chemistry overcomes the challenges associated with dentin bonding to provide strong, reproducible bond strengths in self-etch and total-etch techniques.

Zipbond Universal achieves similar bond strengths when applied to wet and dry dentin, reducing technique sensitivity. Even in situations where dentin is over-dried, the adhesive forms a hybrid layer.

Zipbond Universal contains two adhesive monomers that work together to deliver a durable bond. A proprietary combination of monomers, including the MDP monomer, makes adhesion effective on enamel, dentin and a range of indirect substrates.

The material’s adhesive monomers contain hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups. Hydrophilic monomers quickly infiltrate into enamel and dentin tubules. Effective wettability is achieved as the adhesive spreads homogenously over the tooth surface for a complete seal of dentine tubules, minimizing the risk of post-operative sensitivity.

Nanofillers enable controlled handling, optimal film thickness and increased bond strength. Zipbond Universal is easy to apply in a homogenous thin layer.

The universal adhesive releases fluoride to protect the tooth-restorative interface against demineralization. An effective marginal seal fights recurrent decay and allows for a longer lasting restoration.

The adhesive is visible when placed and virtually invisible on dentin after being cured, making it well suited for use in esthetic zones with bleach and translucent restorative materials.
