Dental Cupid Connecting Emergency Patients with Dentists During COVID-19 Crisis

Dr. Abe Abdul, founder of Lux Dental Inc., created Dental Cupid last month to connect dentists with patients who need emergency care. With many dental offices closed because of the coronavirus pandemic, it can be difficult for patients to get the dental care they need. The free online platform matches patients with dentists who are handling emergencies in their area.

The interface is compatible with all desktop and mobile devices, according to a press release. Users enter their location into the platform and then a list of dentists treating emergencies in that area is displayed. Insurance information is shown so patients know what insurance is accepted and if the practice is accepting patients without insurance.

Hours of operation are also displayed. Users can choose which dentist to contact and then do so by phone or via the web.

While putting the list of dentists together was difficult at first, the team turned to social media for help. The dental community has now embraced the platform with more than 10,000 dentists listed. In four weeks, the platform has already connected more than 5,000 patients with clinicians providing emergency care. Pacific Dental, 42 NORTH, Aspen Dental and other large group practices are among early adopters of the system.
