New Dental Product: 5M Intraoral Camera from GoodDrs USA

GoodDrs USA recently released 5M, a five-megapixel intraoral camera that features a lightweight metal body and advanced liquid optic lens technology.

The patent-pending intraoral camera was designed by a dentist and weighs 2.2 ounces, according to a press release. The durable metal body is comfortable to hold and use, much like a dental handpiece.

The retraction shaped head allows for easy access and provides retraction for the cheek and tongue when needed. The slim head comes with 12 adjustable LEDs that surround the lens to provide optimal lighting.

The camera can capture extreme close-up macro images as well as full arch and full-face images, eliminating the need for extra oral cameras. The Whicam 5M’s TRUE AutoFocus Liquid Optic Lens uses the latest in liquid lens optics technology. After one of the two capture buttons is pressed, the lens instantly reshapes and refocuses to deliver clear images both in and outside of the mouth.

Liquid lens optics can quickly reshape to adjust for depth-of-field and sharpness from any distance without any mechanical movement. This is accomplished by applying a minute amount of electricity to the True AutoFocus lens assembly. The lens, which is like a bag filled with an optically clear gel, slightly changes shape and curve, much like the human eye.

The 5M also features a built-in zoom and mouse function, making it possible to operate dental software without having to set the camera down, grab the mouse, or break contamination protocols. It can be used like an air or gyro mouse to highlight and annotate situations to present to patients. Users can choose from three different color modes (warm, standard or vivid) to capture more lifelike images on the screen or to highlight various periodontal issues patients may have.

The 5M comes with free Windows-based imaging software.
