The new iTero Element 5D Imaging System from Align Technology combines digital impression scanning with near-infrared imaging technology to provide a new comprehensive intraoral imaging protocol.
Debuting at the 2019 International Dental Show, the iTero Element 5D offers all of the features of the iTero Element 2 scanner along with the Near-Infrared Imaging (NIRI) to simultaneously capture 3D color intraoral scans and internal tooth structure scans that can identify interproximal caries above the gingiva, according to a press release. These scans can be compared to track changes over time using the iTero TimeLapse application, and a full arch scan can be captured in just 60 seconds.
The system is designed to allow clinicians to capture digital impressions for restorative and orthodontic cases, provide analysis of the scans with occlusal clearance and other tools, as well as capture intraoral photographs, and connect to Invisalign cases.
