SUNI Medical Imaging Shuts Down, Apteryx Offers Ongoing Software Support

SUNI Medical Imaging is apparently no longer open for business.

According to reports, the digital imaging systems provider shut its doors at the start of 2019. Attempts to reach SUNI representatives via email and phone call for comment have been unanswered. The company's main office number is no longer in service, and while the company's 800-GET-SUNI number is still in operation, no one answered multiple calls and all voicemail boxes were full.

What this means for dental practices using SUNI digital imaging systems including sensors, intraoral cameras, and extraoral imaging systems remains unclear. However, imaging software maker Apteryx is reaching out to offer ongoing support to customers using the Dr. SUNI and Prof. SUNI platforms, which are actually private labeled versions of Apteryx's XrayVision imaging software.

In an open letter, Apteryx CEO Dr. David Gane stated that while Apteryx has been unable to reach SUNI leadership, his company plans to stand behind their software products and will be attempting to contact dental practices currently using the Dr. SUNI and Prof. SUNI software platforms. SUNI customers can register with Apteryx for ongoing support, or simply contact the company with any questions. The letter notes that Apteryx's software platform is an open system designed to work with almost any dental imaging technology and the company is continuing to support and expand its platform.

"We are ready to support the Suni user community with our team of imaging experts and ensure stability for your practice," Gane said in concluding his letter.
