BioMin toothpaste contains a patented bioactive glass material developed by a research team led by Professor Robert Hill at Queen Mary University of London. The product was launched in the United Kingdom in April 2016 and is currently available in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
“BioMin toothpaste contains elements found naturally in the body including calcium, phosphorus, sodium and silica,” said Professor Robert Hill, co-founder of BioMin and Chair of Dental Physical Sciences at Queen Mary University of London. “BioMin works when water and saliva in the mouth break down the bioactive glass within the toothpaste and slowly releases the calcium and phosphate ions to deliver hydroxyapatite onto the surface of the tooth. These ions then rapidly form an effective seal over open dentine tubules.”

Oral care is critically important as dental decay is a prevalent disease worldwide. According to the latest US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, approximately 91% of US adults aged 20–64 have dental cavities in permanent teeth with more than a quarter having untreated tooth decay.
Tooth decay is widespread among children: In younger children (ages 2 to 11), 42% have dental cavities in their primary teeth; with nearly one quarter going untreated. In the 12-19 age group, 59% have dental cavities in their permanent teeth; with one in five having untreated decay.
