Henry Schein Makes Investments in Three Implant Companies

Henry Schein recently made three investments in implant companies, acquiring Intra-Lock and announcing the planned acquisition of a majority interest in both Medical and Pro-Cam Implants.

The acquisition of Intra-Lock will help Henry Schein enhance its position in the premium implant segment, according to a press release. The investment in Medentis Medical will enable the company to expand into the lower-priced segment of the implant market, while the acquisition of a majority interest in Pro-Cam Implants B.V., which is CAMLOG's exclusive distributor in the Netherlands, will give the company a stronger presence in Europe.

The U.S. based Intra-Lock is known for its OSSEAN surface structure, which is engineered to increase host-to-implant biocompatibility and biomechanical response. It is characterized by a surface topography that is similar at all levels of magnification. Medentis Medical is based in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler and is a fast-growing provider of value-priced dental implants. Pro-Cam Implants is one of the leading implant solution providers in the Netherlands and will represent the BioHorizons implant lines and biomaterial portfolio in the future.

The three acquisitions represent annual sales of about $45 million, will be neutral to the company's 2018 earnings per share, and are expected to be accretive thereafter.

Financial terms were not disclosed.
