Updates to Carestream Dental's CS 3600 intraoral scanner software allow faster, smoother scanning, and a new Hybrid Scan process designed to improve the capture of subgingival margins.
The new features of Version 3.1.0 of the scanner's acquisition software were previewed at the 2018 CDA Presents event in San Francisco with a number of user-driven enhancements on display, according to a press release. The Hybrid Scan workflow is a patent pending feature that merges intraoral scan data with data from a scanned partial conventional impression. The single 3D model created from these scans allows for the capture of margin details even when blood is present or the margins are subgingival.
Other improvements in the new software include faster scanning with the time it takes to capture and process a digital impression reduced by as much as 22 percent, and a Preparation Check protocol that compares pre- and post-prep digital impressions to accurately measure distances. The updated software also includes the ability to add customized sounds to play during scanning, and a Multiple Bite Capture option designed to aid in the design of sleep appliances. A redesigned Select Acquisition Type interface better separates the scanner's different workflows and a measurement tool is now available in all three, Orthodontics, Implant, and Restoration.
The software updates will be available to all customers with a CS Advantage plan, and customers without a plan can access a one-time update.
