3Shape Launches Straight Talk Dental Coalition to Bring Back Invisalign Connection

3Shape recently launched the Straight Talk Dental Coalition, a platform that aims to reinstate interoperability between the TRIOS intraoral scanner and Align Technology’s Invisalign.

Align terminated interoperability in January, taking the action as a result of ongoing patent litigation, according to a press release. Align first filed suit against 3Shape and its TRIOS intraoral scanning system and Dental System software claiming patent infringement in November 2017. In December 2017, Align alerted dentists it would terminate interoperability, effective the end of January 2018, and then informed 3Shape.

The Straight Talk Dental Coalition enables dentists who have been negatively impacted by this termination to petition Align and write to other stakeholders requesting interoperability.

On the coalition’s website, dental professionals can sign a petition asking Align to reinstate interoperability between Invisalign and 3Shape, sign a letter to their professional society asking for it to take a stand, invite their colleagues to join the coalition, and share their view with their networks.

TRIOS is an open system and the company has arranged short-term special offers with ClearCorrect and Orametrix. 3Shape also announced its intention to work with 3M to advance the field of orthodontics through digital workflows supporting indirect bonding and clear aligners and other emerging digital orthodontic workflows.

3Shape’s TRIOS scanners work directly with more than 40 orthodontic treatment providers.
