VOCO recently introduced Admira Fusion x-tra, an all ceramic based direct bulk fill restorative material.
With this product, the company has created the first nano-ORMOCER through the “fusion” of VOCO’s Nano-Hybrid and ORMOCER (ORganically MOdified CERamic) technologies, according to a press release.
The material’s chemistry base is formed by silicon oxide, making up the glass fillers as well as the ceramic resin matrix. This “Pure Silicate Technology” is said to offer a variety of benefits, including up to 50 percent lower polymerization shrinkage than other composites and up to 50 percent lower shrinkage stress.
Admira Fusion x-tra also features a 4 mm depth of cure and is available in one universal shade. Its nano-particulate reportedly amplifies the chameleon effect to enhance the material's ability to blend with surrounding tooth structure.
The strong, radiopaque material is biocompatible and features an 84 percent inorganic filler content. It is compatible with all conventional bonding agents and offers homogeneous non-sticky handling.

Biocompatible Nano-ORMOCER® Direct Bulk Fill Restorative
The World’s First ALL CERAMIC-based Direct Bulk-fill Restorative
VOCO is excited to introduce Admira Fusion x-tra, the world’s first ALL CERAMIC-based direct bulk-fill restorative material. After almost two decades of intensive research and development, VOCO has created the first ever nano-ORMOCER® through the innovative “FUSION” of VOCO’s proven Nano-Hybrid and ORMOCER® (ORganically MOdified CERamic) technologies.
As a nano-ORMOCER® Admira Fusion x-tra’s chemistry base is formed by silicon oxide, making up both the glass fillers as well as the ceramic resin matrix, a first of its kind. This unique “Pure Silicate Technology” offers several remarkable advantages including up to 50% lower polymerization shrinkage (1.25% by volume) than today’s conventional composites, as well as up to 50% lower shrinkage stress; two key physical properties as it relates to bulk-fill restoratives. Admira Fusion x-tra has a 4mm depth of cure for fast and long lasting posterior restorations and is available in one universal shade. Admira Fusion’s nano-particulate amplifies its chameleon effect, enhancing its ability to adapt and blend to surrounding tooth structure compared to conventional composites.
The ORMOCER® matrix used within Admira® Fusion x-tra makes the material highly biocompatible, as it contains none of today’s classic monomers (BisGMA [BPA], TEGDMA, UDMA, etc). With an 84 % (by weight) inorganic filler content, the light-cured, radiopaque Admira Fusion x-tra has excellent strength and wear properties. Additionally it is compatible with all conventional bonding agents and offers homogeneous non-sticky handling.
