Forward Science launches Prescription Strength Rinse for Xerostomia and Mucositis
Forward Science continues to provide advanced technologies for dental professionals with its latest product released for the treatment of Xerostomia and Mucositis. Forward Science™, the developers of some of the latest technologies for oral cancer screening and diagnostics, proudly announced their latest product, SalivaMAX™, is commercially available in February 2016. SalivaMAX is a prescription strength rinse that is indicated for the relief of xerostomia, also known as dry mouth, mucositis, and other indications. With the launch of SalivaMAX™, Forward Science provides a Complete Oral Wellness Program for their clinicians: oral cancer screening (OralID), diagnostic tests (CytID, PathID, hpvID), pH monitoring (phID), and treatment (SalivaMAX).
“The data has proven that Supersaturated Calcium Phosphate Rinses are an effective treatment for xerostomic and mucositic patients.” Explains President and Chief Technology Officer Dr. Brian Pikkula. “We wanted to give the patient population an opportunity to benefit from a prescription strength, affordable option with SalivaMAX. We are excited for every office, from general dental offices to large oncology centers, to start utilizing SalivaMAX for their patient care.”
Our natural saliva plays an important role in oral health; lubricating the mouth, aiding in digestion and killing harmful bacteria. When there is a reduction in saliva, there is also a reduction in the oral pH, resulting in a more acidic environment. Without the appropriate amount of saliva, the oral cavity is at a greater risk of caries, tooth decay, plaque build-up, sore throat, fungal infections and increased burning sensations in the mouth and on the tongue.
SalivaMAX is artificial saliva that is provided in single-use packets. SalivaMAX is comprised of powdered ingredients that, when mixed with 1 oz of water, forms a supersaturated calcium phosphate solution, which has been clinically proven to provide relief of dry mouth symptoms. Patients swish with SalivaMAX for one minute, and it can be administered several times per day, depending on the dry mouth severity.
SalivaMAX is available by prescription only, and through the Forward Science's Patient Assistance Program the out of pocket costs could be as low as $0 for those that qualify.
