Straumann and Sirona Sign Collaboration Agreement

Straumann and Sirona Sign Collaboration Agreement

Straumann and Sirona Dental Systems recently entered a collaboration agreement that gives dentists and labs more CAD/CAM prosthetic options.

Through the agreement, dental practices can produce individualized implant prosthetics chairside with Straumann Variobase abutments supported by Sirona’s CEREC system, according to a press release. Sirona lab customers also can use Straumann’s centralized milling option as a ‘trusted partner’ in the Sirona inLab workflow, offering more milling options to labs and practices.

Straumann Variobases for CEREC are available in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, with other countries to follow. Straumann also expects to launch a new version with an optimized emergence profile compatible with existing material blocks in the near future. After an update of the CEREC software, which is expected to happen in early 2016, it will be fully supported by the CEREC workflow for individualized abutments.

In another agreement, Straumann and Sirona have settled mutual patent disputes. This allows Sirona to continue to offer its own existing TiBase design for Straumann implants, and Straumann to use Sirona’s mirror anatomy software to design prosthetic teeth in its CAD/CAM CARES Visual software.
