Study Shows Effectiveness of Carestream Dental’s CS 9300 Low Dose Mode

A study conducted at the University of North Carolina’s School of Dentistry found Carestream Dental’s CS 9300 cone beam system can capture diagnostic 3D images while using less radiation than is required for a traditional panoramic image when the system is set to Low Dose Mode.

The research, led by Dr. John Ludlow, found that using the Low Dose Mode to capture a 5x5 cm volume in an adult exam required just 3 microsieverts of radiation. The lower doses are made possible by the cone beam system’s noise reduction processing and dose-saving algorithms, according to a press release.

Using Low Dose Mode can reduce both the dose and the scan time by as much as 95 percent, and the mode can be used to capture volumes as large as 17x11 cm. Existing CS 9300 systems that did not come with the Low Dose Mode setting can be retrofitted to add the functionality.
