Set for May 2014 availability, the iTero 5.2 Software Upgrade from Align Technology is designed to make the digital impression system more efficient and versatile.
The upgraded software makes use of new algorithms that allow the system to complete scans faster. Beta testing sites showed as much as a 40 percent reduction in Invisalign scan times, according to a press release.
Additional new features in the updated software include a new Vivera Scan designed to provide fast scans for use in fabrication of Vivera Retainers. A new Vivera Pre Debond feature allows clinicians to scan teeth with traditional brackets attached and then send the scan to Align for digital removal of the brackets and fabrication of the Vivera Retainer. With this feature clinicians can schedule debonding and retainer delivery in the same appointment.
A new certified orthodontic laboratory workflow allows iTero scans to be sent directly to an iTero Orthodontic Lab Partner, and this can be combined with iRecord digital study models for an enhanced digital orthodontic workflow. The software upgrade also adds a new Realine Scan for use with the Realine system provided via Henry Schein.
Along with the new software, Align Technology will launch comprehensive monthly subscriptions for iTero users starting in June 2014. The subscriptions include extended warranties and provide comprehensive scanner functionality without scan fees.
