 Fear of Root Canals Down as AAE Promotes Root Canal Awareness Week

During the 8th annual Root Canal Awareness Week—March 30 – April 5—the American Association of Endodontists will work to dispel myths about root canals and strengthen the connections between general practitioners and endodontic specialists.

This year’s Root Canal Awareness Week comes at a time when the public is growing less frightened of root canals while growing more interested in saving permanent teeth. A recent AAE survey found that 54 percent of Americans are apprehensive about root canals, a number that dropped from 60 percent in 2013 and is the lowest in an AAE survey, according to a press release. The survey also found that 76 percent of Americans would want to avoid losing a permanent tooth.

During Root Canal Awareness Week the AAE hopes to build on the connections between general practitioners and endodontists while promoting the many advancements in technologies and techniques that make root canals a less painful treatment option than the general public perceives.
