Straumann’s Ceramic Dental Implant Starts Controlled Market Release

Straumann’s Ceramic Dental Implant Starts Controlled Market Release

During the recent European Association for Osseointegration (EAO) meeting in Dublin, Straumann announced the publication of new clinical results on a ceramic dental implant it is developing which has entered into controlled market release with a possible wider launch in 2014.

The ceramic dental implant is designed to provide enhanced esthetics and a dental implant option for patients who wish to avoid metal implants, according to a press release. Straumann is ensuring predictability and stability of these implants through innovative manufacturing processes and rigorous post-production mechanical testing of each implant.

The ceramic dental implant is designed as a one-piece implant with a surface texture called ZLA that exhibits similar properties to the company’s SLA implant surface treatment. The first wave of testing with 41 implants provided a 98% success rate. 500 additional ceramic implants have been released for the next phase of clinical testing.

In addition to the news of the ceramic implant, Straumann also used the EAO meeting as a platform to provide an update on its promising research into a fully-synthetic bone regeneration material, as well as promoting the launch of its expanded line of Roxolid SLActive dental implants and its new connection with 3Shape’s Dental System CAD software.
