Heraeus Kulzer Touts BPA-Free Venus Dental Composites

While many dental composite formulations are built around Bis-GMA, Heraeus Kulzer is promoting its use of alternative chemistry to avoid the use bisphenol A, commonly called BPA, an ingredient in Bis-GMA.

In a press release, Heraeus Kulzer outlines its use of Tricyclodecan-Urethane-Monomer formulations for its line of Venus Diamond and Venus Pearl dental composites. These materials contain no Bis-GMA and thus no BPA, while still allowing the company to produce composites with the desired handling, high strength and minimal shrinkage. In the release Heraeus Kulzer points out that dental practices using these and its other composites such as Venus Diamond Flow and Venus Bulk Fill can inform patients that the materials do not contain potentially harmful chemicals such as BPA.
