American Dental Association Responds to Senate Report on Corporate Dental Chains

The American Dental Association issued a response lauding a recent U.S. Senate report alleging fraud and abuse by corporate dental practice chains, but also criticized the report for blaming the entire chain dental practice business model rather than focusing just on the offending operations.

The Senate report identifies companies where dentists are pressured to perform unneeded care in order to maximize clinic and corporate profits. This type of operation goes against the ethical principles at the core of the ADA Code of Professional Conduct and should not be tolerated anywhere, the ADA noted in a press release.

The Senate report also focused on the large underserved dental population in the United States, and the ADA noted its own efforts through the Action for Dental Health: Dentists Making a Difference Campaign which seeks to expand care for children and underserved dental populations through community-based solutions.
