 VCU Named 2013 America’s ToothFairy Affiliate of the Year

The National Children’s Oral Health Foundation: America’s ToothFairy (NCOHF) named Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry, Department of Pediatric Dentistry its 2013 Affiliate of the Year.

The annual award is presented to honor an Affiliate’s commitment to eliminating pediatric dental disease, according to a press release. VCU School of Dentistry joined the Affiliate program, a network of non-profit community healthcare facilities, in 2011 and has since been recognized as the first NCOHF University Affiliate Oral Health Zone through their active participation in Tomorrow’s SMILES, Students United for America’s ToothFairy and the America’s ToothFairy Kids Club.

VCU provides free preventive care and oral health education along with visits from the ToothFairy at libraries, school, health fairs, community events and other gatherings. The award was presented during the NCOHF Celebration of Smiles event in Chicago in February and accepted by VCU Community Relations Coordinator Margaret Snellings, BSDH, RDH who was wearing the ToothFairy costume she wears to VCU outreach programs.
