February Named Gum Disease Awareness Month in 21 States

Twenty-one states have officially designated February as Gum Disease Awareness Month in an effort to raise the public awareness of how widespread and dangerous gum disease can be.

More prevalent in the U.S. than cancer, heart disease or arthritis, gum disease is treatable but can lead to serious complications when left untreated, according to a press release. The public awareness effort is being led by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry.

States with official Gum Disease Awareness Month designations include Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
