Caries infiltrants are a unique class of dental materials designed for treating smooth surface lesions and proximal carious lesions. These materials penetrate the first third of dentin to treat these lesions earlier than they could otherwise be treated and the treatment does not involve any drilling or bulk removal of tissue prior to the application of the infiltrant material. The material can also be used to eliminate white spot lesions on teeth. While caries infiltrants can be applied without drilling and without the use of anesthesia, it is important to follow the material's protocol in order to deliver optimal results.
