The Top 10 Dental Products of 2017

Our look back on the most popular content on Dentalcompare during the past 12 months wraps up as always with the spotlight on the products that drew the most people. For the first time in several years, the Top 10 Products is a list that does not include any newly launched products. Instead, it’s a list of established technologies and materials that continue to work and draw interest from around the globe.

While the other year-end lists in this series showcase trends and emerging concepts in dentistry, this list is about what is here now, what is established as a market leader, and what products continue to offer the staying power both in the dental marketplace and in practices. One category does make up close to half of this list, but besides the world of dental lasers, no other category of products appears twice.

Read on to learn about the Top 10 Dental Products of 2017:

SOL Portable Diode Laser10. SOL Portable Diode Laser from DenMat – The first laser to make an appearance on this list checks in at the 10th spot. Since it was launched several years ago, the SOL laser has remained a popular item in the dental field. It’s a powerful, versatile soft-tissue laser that boasted cutting-edge specs when it launched. Those specs still look pretty sharp today, explaining why people keep checking out this laser.

CS 8100 3D9. CS 8100 3D from Carestream Dental – When Carestream Dental first launched the CS 8100 line with the original panoramic unit, the imaging system’s slim profile was a standout feature. Then when they added a cone beam equipped version with the same footprint, it was almost unfair. The CS 8100 3D is a top of the line 3D imaging system with one of the slimmest profiles around. This CBCT unit can fit into just about any practice without the need for major renovations, making 3D imaging more accessible and convenient than ever before.

Solea Dental Laser8. Solea Dental Laser from Convergent Dental – If you read the Top 10 Dental Articles of 2017, you know the Solea is a popular laser. This all-tissue system is capable of being a part of more clinical situations than almost any other laser available to dentists today. With its unique CO2 laser wavelength, it’s able to perform hard and soft tissue procedures without numbing the patient first. Practices that have embraced the Solea have changed their approach to almost all patient care, and are seeing the benefits in shorter treatments, busier schedules and amazed patients.

EPIC 10 Diode Laser7. EPIC 10 Diode Laser from BIOLASE – Among the most powerful diode lasers around, the Epic 10 has been a hit since BIOLASE first introduced it. With a range of clinical applications, this laser can be put to use in a number of ways. While it has been followed up by the Epic X, the original Epic 10 remains the most popular version on Dentalcompare. Sometimes it’s hard to beat the original.

SuniRay 2 Digital Intraoral Sensor6. SuniRay 2 Digital Intraoral Sensor from Suni Medical Imaging – Digital x-ray sensors are the most popular category of products on Dentalcompare, but the SuniRay 2 is the only sensor to make this top 10 list. Combining high-quality imaging, a durable design and industry low radiation requirements, the SuniRay 2 remains an attractive option for any practice looking at digital sensors.

ParaCore Core Build-Up Material5. ParaCore Core Build-Up Material from Coltene Whaledent – A three-in-one composite system for post and core and indirect crown and bridge cementation, this material brings versatility and convenience to the dental practice. Having a single, go-to option for multiple clinical situations is extremely efficient, and that’s probably why this material remains popular on Dentalcompare.

NV Microlaser Dental Diode Laser4. NV Microlaser Dental Diode Laser from DenMat – The NV Microlaser is small, handheld and simple to operate. This probably explains why it’s the most popular dental laser on Dentalcompare. Its successor, the NV PRO3, made it to the Top 10 New Dental Products this year, but once again the original model remains the one people are looking at.

MouthWatch Intraoral Camera3. MouthWatch Intraoral Camera from MouthWatch – When MouthWatch arrived in the dental industry several years ago, it made waves not with new technology or unique features, but instead with its low price point. The most popular intraoral camera on Dentalcompare is a high-quality intraoral imaging system backed by powerful software. Still, the fact this camera is priced low enough to make having it in every operatory a practical consideration is why it’s the one people keep clicking on.

IRM ZOE Intermediate Restorative Material2. IRM ZOE Intermediate Restorative Material from Dentsply Sirona Restorative – Another product with multiple uses, IRM ZOE is useful when a patient needs a long-term temporary restoration. With its ability to reduce sensitivity, it also comes in handy as a base under non-resin restorative materials such as amalgams or porcelain indirect restorations. With so many ways it can be applied in clinical practice, it’s no surprise that it’s a perennial favorite on Dentalcompare.

CollaPlug Absorbable Collagen Wound Dressing1. CollaPlug Absorbable Collagen Wound Dressing from Zimmer Biomet – Anyone who has read previous Top 10 Product lists on Dentalcompare should have expected CollaPlug to retain its top position. Year in and year out this collagen plug sits atop this list of most viewed products. The reason behind the CollaPlug’s unwavering popularity is still a mystery, but whatever is powering its draw, CollaPlug remains the most viewed product on Dentalcompare for another year.
