Routine Checkups Help You Stay on Top of Dental Practice Operations

As a dentist you regularly perform routine checkups on your patients, but do you take the time to regularly check up on the business side of your practice?

I know your main concern is your patients, and you would probably rather not spend time worrying about the business side of your practice. Consequently, many dentists think they can focus on patient care and just wing the business side. However you can’t run a successful practice this way.

If this sounds like you, your first step should be to start using practice management software such as Easy Dental that makes the business side easy to manage.  Choose a software program that includes powerful tools that are easy to use and allow you to both, manage the overall health of your practice, and measure your essential business operations. Your software system should also enable you to set practice goals and then measure your results against those goals. To conduct regular checkups on your practice, here are two things you should check:

Practice Analysis

Quickly and easily run a detailed report to provide your office staff with a clear understanding of how your practice is doing in terms of:

  • Aging of accounts
  • Collections
  • Patient activity
  • Practice production
  • Production goals
  • Receivables

Referral Analysis

The crux of every successful dental practice is the ability to gain and manage as many new patients as possible. Returning patients are an important part of your practice, but new patients are its lifeblood.

Find a practice management software program that keeps your referral efforts from falling through the cracks. It will save you time managing these important records. A report should provide specific information about the number of referrals made by a certain patient or staff member as well as the total production amount within a specified time period. It should also let you document any referral rewards you’ve given to your patients or staff to see which rewards are most effective.

Just as you encourage your patients to receive routine checkups, I encourage you to use tools to perform regular checkups on the business side of your dental practice. This will ensure your practice continues to be healthy and successfully productive.
