Overjet Receives Fourth FDA Clearance for its Dental AI Technology

Overjet recently received a fourth clearance from the FDA, with the technology now approved to predict tooth decay in younger patients.

The FDA analyzed and approved the company’s AI models for detecting and outlining caries on periapical radiographs and bitewing radiographs for patients 12 and older who have permanent teeth, according to a press release. The FDA study found dentists could detect more carious lesions when using Overjet, missing 43% fewer teeth with caries on bitewing images and 45.8% fewer teeth with caries on periapical images. Overjet’s AI technology outlines the decay, which helps providers and patients visualize the extent more clearly.

Overjet is also FDA-cleared to detect calculus and to quantify bone level measurements. It adds metrics that help providers determine the level of periodontal disease while also helping patients see how the infection is deteriorating the bone supporting their teeth.
