Set to hit the store shelves later this year, new Oral-B SmartSeries electric tooth brushes will connect with a new Oral-B App via Bluetooth 4.0 to provide real-time brushing guidance.
The new brush and app combination can track home care routines over time, and the system is designed to help people improve their oral care habits and focus brushing efforts on areas most in need, according to a press release.
The Oral-B App not only receives information from the brush to monitor brushing, but also pushes expert guidance that can be input by a patient’s dentist. The app stores a patient’s brushing data and can be set up for custom brushing sequences. During brushing the app displays a status update while also providing news and weather information. It will be available as a free download for iOS and Android devices.
The SmartSeries electric brush will be capable of communicating with the app while brushing with oscillating, rotating and pulsating action. It can sense when a user is brushing too hard and the app will indicate when to back off. Six different cleaning modes and six different brush heads will be available.
