Carestream Dental Releases Updated CS ScanFlow v1.0.3 Software

Carestream Dental’s updated CS ScanFlow v1.0.3 scanner acquisition software reduces steps in the scanning process, protects data and makes it easier to work with third parties. The software powers the CS 3700 intraoral scanner and is also available for the CS 3600 intraoral scanner.

The software’s new anti-reflective mode eliminates the need to microetch or spray shiny or reflective surfaces such as metal, full ceramic brackets and crowns and resins with powder before scanning, according to a press release. Users can start the scan right away and still generate a high-quality rendering of reflective surfaces on the digital impression.

CS ScanFlow v1.0.3 also provides access to secure digital impression file conversion tools via cloud-based Microsoft Azure. Scanned datasets can only be exchanged with third parties that have logged in and provided credentials, adding another layer of safety around patient privacy. The feature also eliminates the need to update the CS Mesh Converter on all computers when a new version of CS ScanFlow is available.

The new bite capture capability allows for optimal treatment planning and makes it possible for clinicians to achieve the ideal appliance fit for their patients. Instead of three, users can now obtain up to five bites in addition to the normal one, providing an extensive view of the patient’s overall occlusion. All five bites can be exported to a lab or used in third-party software such as exocad or Blender for dental with an articulator add-on.

With Smart Position mode, scans can be displayed onscreen in the same orientation as the patient’s mouth. Before, the arch was displayed upside down while scanning. With a more natural scan reflected on the computer, users can better track the tip position and follow the progression, allowing for a more intuitive scan.

To drive patient engagement, users can create an animated MP4 file of the digital impression and then email the file to patients. The “keepsake” helps generate excitement and can be easily shared on social media, helping to promote the practice. The video also can be shared with referring doctors to provide a 3D view of the case.

Other updates include scan preservation for refinement, an enhanced cutting tool, and intuitive scanner identification and connection.
