Align Technology recently completed the acquisition of exocad, a CAD/CAM software company that offers fully integrated workflows to dental labs and dental practices via a broad customer base of partners and resellers in more than 150 countries.
The acquisition broadens Align’s digital platform by “adding technology that addresses restorative needs in an end-to-end digital platform workflow to facilitate ortho-restorative and comprehensive dentistry,” according to a press release. The company brings its expertise in restorative dentistry, implantology, smile design and guided surgery to Align’s portfolio.
This move also extends Align’s Invisalign and iTero digital solutions, making seamless cross-disciplinary dentistry possible in labs and dental practices. With close to 200 partners and more than 35,000 licenses installed worldwide, exocad broadens Align’s platform reach in digital dentistry.
Align plans to maintain all exocad products and services and the company will continue to operate as it does today, supporting a broad ecosystem of partners and end-users. Co-founders Tillmann Steinbrecher and Maik Gerth, along with their team, will remain with the company and report into John Morici, Align Technology’s senior vice president and CFO.
